Dangerous Entanglements

That night dripped like ink upon a virgin canvas of mystery
And within it she dipped her quill of desires
Calligraphing an indelicate tale of salacities
I stood bare and unsullied
As she became the author of my story

Trust is a leap of faith
but in her case I had to pole vault
over a capricious chasm of deviousness
I’d had flings with temptation but only then did I truly understand what it felt like
To want something so bad so much
Her toxic scent! How it melted all reason!
How it inflamed my covetous appetites!
Consuming me as I nestled in its bosom
,
Meticulously, she scripted a night of many firsts and even better seconds
She took me above the clouds, paragliding on puffs of bliss
And then she dropped me down so hard
Like a skydiver without a parachute,
Traitorous

She gave me everything but left me bewildered
My best nights also my worst
Only your patience would pry me away from her
Your encouragement and loyalty
As I realized that you were always there to catch me
Always reviving,
resuscitating
Bringing me back to life

Even now she dogs my steps
Winking as she flaunts her other suitors
But your warm hand is always there
A reminder of what is truly good
And together we watch her
As she glides by like a passing fancy

.

In this flash fiction poetry, the “She” I mention is ‘addiction’ in its various forms. For me, it was smoking(it’s now a year since I quit)

May we never abandon loved ones to these dangerous entanglements.

A shoulder of support or a little tough love, whatever we do to help, the important thing is that we are always there.

Stay safe, stay loving.

My father spent most of his life trying to stop smoking. A year is quite an accomplishment. And beautiful images in your verse. (K)

Thank you K. Yeah before this year, I’d spent like 2years trying and failing to quit alone till I got people who have supported me. Now it’s a lot easier
