What have I become
When true comfort lies in discomfort
When to be real, I need to hide
When safety is but an illusion
My refuge looms upon a despondent cliff
Pale white with dark soulless windows
The raging sea below-
mirrors the turbulent clouds above
An atmosphere hued in gray despair
For when thunder shakes
And the lightning-flash unmasks
Anywhere will do!
Within those ghostly insipid walls lies my only hope
A secret refuge from a glaring world
A chance to explore promiscuous dreams
Away from the threatening storm of prejudice
And despite the wailing moan of wind
searching through the corridors
Or the ominous shudder of windows
as the sea hammers the foundations below
Despite an eerie loneliness
sipping from beneath the aged upholstery
Or the dark shades
that lend evil to the portraits on the walls
Despite all this
I find my freedom here
Away from the morals of an immoral world
Oh to be a wild and free spirit
In a world of endless rules
Will you ever find home
I’m swept away by this…

Power and depth in this: “I find my freedom here
Away from the morals of an immoral world”. That’s really strong work!

Great poem! It’s really difficult to show our true-self to the world, too much judgment!

I know right, that’s why I imagined that forlorn secret place where we can be our raw selves

This reminds me of the Winchester house; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winchester_Mystery_House
I can only wonder if Sarah Winchester ever found peace. 👀

Wow the Winchester house is far grander. The stories it has seen! I might use it as a prompt for my next musings

Look on the net for it – you can get sort of a virtual tour… I’m not sure if my volume needs adjusting or there wasn’t any… but it is interesting to see the interior. Sarah certainly was one of a kind.

She was very much so. I’d like to watch a show on it or even 2

Sarah was a haunted woman, by her own consciousness, her family legacy and maybe even somethings we’ll never understand. The shows I’ve watched were very interesting. I think you could watch the same show several times and come away with something new each time.

Which ones have you watched? I’d like to try them🙏🏾

It’s been awhile… They were TV specials. And some tid-bits on other history shows. Best to look up on the net about the Winchester Mystery Mansion and Sarah. One might have even been one of the ghost hunter shows going through the place.

There were Winchesters in supernatural but I don’t think it was those. I’ll look Jules. Thank you so much
