Create in me a world like no other
Drape my heart as your canvas of dreams
Write on me, with a flourish of hope
For I am too broken, to dream alone.
My fantasy is tainted
darkness has sipped in like a plague
My spirit yearns for renewal
light has ebbed out, so wane
My mind holds the soul hostage
Depression imprisoning joy
I do not know my desires
I cannot tell my needs!
Like a lone wolf straying in the night
I howl my desperate call
A terror to those not meant for me
A beacon to those who love me the most
Stand by me
Let me share your dreams
Stand by me
Explore your fantasy with me
Stand by me
Renew your spirit within mine

The answers we seek often lie in solving the problems of others.
Stay safe everyone, and stay loving.

The title makes so much sense to me. I actually do that as my default coping mechanism when I’m spiraling. I often aggressively look out for people who might be crying for help or who I think could do with some company at that point. Often, helping others have in turn helped me distract myself from my own thought loops and kept me grounded. Amazing poem! β€

Thank you so much Shruba. I agree with you. Also, bringing happiness to someone can bring happiness to oneself

My mind holds the soul hostage….that is such a terrible state to be in. Lending a hand, reaching out to such a soul, helping them emerge out of their dark shadows is such a humane deed. You touched upon a very important issue which many are grappling with today. As always a wonderful piece Jude!!

It’s a deep subject, usually brushed off by many who don’t understand. I’m okay Pallavi. Thank you so much for asking. I must ask if how the breaking is going β€οΈ?

I was thinking another day how our mind plays tricks on us, and you put this well in this poem, … holds the soul hostage… it’s really true.

I really do think that for the most part we all have experienced or are experiencing depression from the major shocks we all have received. As for the last quote ….. my philosophy is it is not our responsibility to solve others’ problems unless that is, we are first asked for help. One exception. Personal problems are meant to be solved by only the individual with those problems. Just my take on what you wrote, Jude. Hope all is well with you! xo

I get what you are saying Amy, but depression is not just a mood that comes and goes, it’s worst state is caused by past traumas that cannot be overcome alone. People go through trials we cannot comprehend and that’s why I implore you to always extend a helping hand Amy. And to help even when it seems your help is not wanted.

I really like the way you construct many of your poems as conversations with yourself. Very effective way to show that everything has more than one side to it. (K)

It try to view the more sensitive subjects I write about from an open perspective while expressing my thoughts on them. I’m glad you recognise this K. And I’m grateful.β€οΈ

Beautifully written, definitely agree that helping others who are going through something similar can be very good for ourselves, making us feel less alone and more useful. While the feelings expressed are definitely well descriptive and relatable.

Excellent writing. “For I am too broken, to dream alone.” That’s an interesting one and really is the heart of depression. But the collective dreams really can be the best ones, I think.
