The Artist of my Soul

What do you see #47

Oh to find the one
Who knows you more than any
Never to be yours

What do you see photo prompt

Who are you that sees me so clear
A voyeur who prowls my soul
And drips between its layers
Daring to divulge
Secrets I did not know I had.
How in so short a time
Have you found what none has found in a lifetime
When did you become the artist of my life story
Deftly splodging my pain in patterns across the page
Depicting my fears in adroit designs of nervous hues
Smearing my dreams in lustrous colours and glossy paints

Are you a gift sent to make me whole
A match meant to be
Or are you a curse…
Bait dangled by fate
A taste of what will never be

Oh autumn colours
Old leaves carrying new dreams
Artists of the soul

While writing this, I kept asking myself;

Can a soulmate be merely a friend(be it, a lifelong one), or is a soulmate meant to be a lover or partner?

I hope you enjoy this,
Please stay safe, and stay loving..

I loove this. It is rare to find someone who understands you for who are. I believe a soulmate can be a friend.

Jackie said that too, I guess I’m getting convinced. Maybe what I’m wondering is if a partner must be a soulmate?

      1. 🤔
        I really don’t know…
I don’t think it’s really necessary but we expect the same person to fulfil both the roles. Few succeed, few fail.

  6. Great poem Jude. I love the words ‘deftly splodging’. Wonderful!
I think a soul mate is a combination of best friend and the love of your life. I also think it is very rare to find one’s soul mate. Most people settle for second best.

You read my thoughts just now, I think I can accept a soulmate being a friend, so I wanted to know if a partner or spouse has to be a soulmate

      1. I would think so Jude, otherwise you are going to be unfaithful to your spouse/partner if he/she is not also your soulmate. In my opinion a soulmate is your best friend and best match in a physical/sexual sense. Do you see what I mean? So your spouse/partner should also be your soulmate – your best friend and the person you enjoy being with most sexually. Once you have found such a person, other people can be good friends but you should not fancy them sexually.

That’s another beautifully written piece, Jude, and you pose an interesting question. To me, a soulmate represents a very special and deep kind of love, which endures… a lifetime and beyond?

Ahh, Chris, thank you. I think I now see that a soulmate is not necessarily the same as a lover or partner, and is a different dimension of a connection that can be found or not found in the person/s we love

Beautifully expressed! Friends can be soulmates, but soulmates are so rare that when you find one your first realization is that they’re a gift from heaven to be blessed and never taken for granted.

Just amazing: “A voyeur who prowls my soul / And drips between its layers”. Bit of a sad tone to this though. Love found but not fully realized together. Could feel the words of this one.

Thank you so much, alas, it didn’t feel right to go happy coz soulmates are hard to find or identify

  10. It is very true what you have written here, Jude. We don’t know for a long time whether the people we love and who seem to understand our needs really do and are really what we expect them to be.
