In the wilderness
When fear heightens the senses
My gaze halts on you!
Your eyes hold a deadly allure
Threatening but also inviting
So lethal they pierce the heart
So fine they soothe the soul
Come, they seem to say
At your risk if you must dare
For in this search for truest love
One must pledge their heart’s demise
For what can one do
If you are all they see when eyes are closed
What can one do
If to leave you be is to live besieged
The dream
It always calls
Love that must be explored
‘Try me, but dare not deny me’
Believe
Heartbreak does not last forever
And yet regret endures
So chase the dream.
And Love!
For while the heart beats
It will always love
But the soul remembers
Whenever denied

I’m in a very ponderous mood, with a sullen undertone that keeps sipping into my writing. Given what’s happened recently, I think I’ll let it fade on its own.
I hope you enjoy this, and share your thoughts too.
The oval shaped poem is known as a butterfly cinquain, I think I have a soft spot for them.

Stay safe everyone, stay loving.
Don’t forget to check out the 10th edition of The Saturday Symphony and maybe get involved.
Beautifully written Jude. Let the mood ride out by itself

Out of sight is not always out of mind, is it? “My gaze halts on you” is such a striking line and sets the tone for the poem. A pleasure to read, Jude.

That is some good writing, Jude! I am sorry to know about the mishaps of the past week, but I am glad to see that you are writing it out.
‘Try me, but dare not deny me’. I love this line esp as it is so dangerous and inviting at the same time!

Works for both intimate relationships as well as that with parents.
Not all fathers and mothers are good parents. And sometimes children have to learn in spite of or contrary to how they were treated.
The good thing about writing our feelings out in poetry is that it makes room for growth, understanding and new adventure. May you always have room for the love of others and your writing. 🌈
