Before we can truly love ourselves, must we hold off on loving the one we want the most?
Lost Searching Captain
Land-ho beckons, A new home.
Beyond beautiful
Rich, plentiful and tempting
But your ship, carries disease
When each time I see you feels like a dream
And your slightest smile preludes our future
When each kindness builds love ahead of steam
Butterfly blushes your gestures nurture
I cannot tell you that you feel like home
That my clumsy courtship won’t lead us there
I cannot risk those paths most lovers roam
Games of jealousy, aloof without a care
For a love that burns this deep is daunting
Too fragile to test, too precious to spoil
Emotions held at bay by caution’s string
Desire’s armada, never touching soil
Must I know this way that my love is true
When I’m sure it’s not good enough for you
True love
Does not wait
It works
I’ve been wanting to pose some deep love questions for your thoughts.
Been a while since I wrote a sonnet. I hope you enjoy it, along with the tanka and haiku too.
Stay safe everyone, and stay loving.

Hi Jude. Your sonnet, tanka and haiku are all wonderful and full of true feeling. I don’t think you should ever hold off from claiming the one you love the most, and NEVER settle for second best. By that I mean, if the one YOU love the most doesn’t love you back with the same intensity, don’t just ‘settle’ for someone else out of despair and desperation. Such relationships never work out.

I’m glad it had that effect, I always try to show how good love is but also how not straight forward it is

It’s a different line of thought, up for debate though

lol.. but i love it and it could be true to some.. so why argue?

Haha, no I’m not arguing, you’ve put it the right way, “it could be true for some” but not for all

Very beautiful, Jude. I am quite cynical about romance which is why I cannot write poetry like this.

I feel romance is a natural animal instinct, not just in humans, courtship is allover the animal kingdom

Some lovely lines here, and I think you have the answer in your haiku. Reminds me of a line from a Bob Dylan’s ‘You’re gonna make me lonesome when you go:’
I been shootin’ in the dark too long
When something’s not right it’s wrong

Beautiful sonnet and photos. The landscape is a good reflection of ideal love–unspoiled by the messiness of day to day living. To keep love alive requires work. That is true. (K)

Thank you K. It does need work but there are times, it just works.

Long term any relationship has downs as well as ups though. And you have to be willing to see it through them.

I agree though not all downs are equal. But I understand the concept
