Not all true love lasts,
And if it ends, does it mean it wasn’t true?
He said, “Till we meet again.”
She smiled,
And they knew that this was farewell.
Before I go I must be sure
Of fortune’s will
And the bond that held us together
Of our intimate love strings
And when they were truly severed
Or why the fates that deemed us matched
Have now withdrawn their favour
Don’t leave without a word
For regret and spite will linger
Haunted by love’s bitter facade
Don’t say you can’t explain
For I’ll always wonder why
Daunted to ever love again
Tell me you love me
Then say it’s not the same
Tell me you don’t feel it
The way it used to be
For if you let me down slowly
You’ll still let me go,
all the same.
As the full moon pales
The love-light wanes in your eyes
Leaked tears of goodbye
Love that bloomed true as summer
Fades on sighing autumn winds
I hope you are all well.
I’ve been away this week,
But I’m back now, and glad to be so.
I believe, that to sacrifice a little of your own happiness for someone else’s,
Is the true essence of love.

Jude, if only one could let go of love as gracefully and beautifully as your poem! Love your thoughts. Hope you have been well. 💙

Hey Punam, yes, heartbreak is a very ugly thing. I just approached this as a brace for what comes next, and in the end, closure and appreciation is the best recipe for loving anew.
It’s definitely not a perfect world out there, especially with love

I agree, not a perfect world but we can all strive to remove ugliness…your way!

Everything pretty in here! I don’t believe love ends, but transforms! It can become friendship, a memory or hate!

I have to agree with you on this😌, except for the hate bit.

There are many songs that I just can’t place words or artist to that talk about this type of relationship. The first love taints all others. So while the second might be good it will never be good enough. And thus a break happens because one or the other can’t love the new person enough.
I like how you gave credit to the fates… though I think it is possible to overcome this kind of heartache….with the right love and time.

Rightly put Jules, it does take away a certain innocence but we learn, grow and learn to love again differently

Ah the one song I was thinking about finally came to mind. By Meatloaf, “Two out of three ain’t bad”… I want you, I need you but I’m never gonna love you.

Those words say so much, lemme look for the song.

Reading your work makes my heart smile! What a beautiful, heartbreaking and poignant piece this is. To love is to know that it can all be gone in seconds and yet still choose it. I too am currently busy with college admissions and such but it’s always a joy to come across your writings!
