Naked words
Nude with emotion
From one heart
To one soul
Clothed and wrapped in shades of red
For your eyes only!

If a letter must conceal this love,
Then only red will do.
But which love must I send,
And of which shade and hue?
Crimson
It speaks of ‘Soon’
Blood-red and thumping love
Of faithful and aching desire
Of hope
Distanced spouses longing for each other
Claret
Dark with regret
Filled with apologies
A deep red shade of redemption
A vow
A promise learnt from mistakes
Scarlet
Bright and glaring
Desperate with passion
Beseeching, honest, determined
Spellbound
‘Loving you into loving me’
Coral
Soft with romance
A light shade of near pink
Exciting, lustful, and charming
Lovers
Seduction into ecstasy
Redwood
Shade of Nature
So True and transcending
A love beyond the physical
Lifelong
‘You and I forever and always’
Vermilion
Kissed by fire
Bright as innocence
Beautiful as the setting sun
Virgin
The joys of love’s firsts
So I pick a shade of red
To wrap this love of mine
To set the mood and heighten emotion,
A hue to fit my heart’s design

Sadje’s whatdoyousee photo-prompt inspired me to write this piece.
I was quite intrigued by the hanging love letter, and why red felt so perfect for it.
I used the cinquain poetry form for each hue of red,
Perfect for Colleen’s weekly challenge .
What is your favourite shade of red?(There are quite a number of them)
Hope you enjoy this,
Stay safe, stay loving
P.S For a little more from tales told different, check out the previous post;
I love these wonderful shades of red with the nuances and different meanings. Are these your own interpretation of red shades or from another source?
Thanks a lot for joining in with this lovely poem.

Thank you so much Sadje, these are my own metaphors. Colours are so neutral and diverse for metaphors so it was fun giving characters to fit in my piece.
I’m glad you like it, Sadje๐งก

All those shades. Reminds me of nail polish and paint color names.
I knew that different flowers had different meanings… but the shades of a single color… or did you cleverly make them up?
A delightful red of reds. Hard to pick a favorite with how you have described them in your verse ๐

Haha, I actually thought about you with the redwood, for the anniversary conversation we had the other time.
I definitely didn’t make up the colours but I created the metaphors from how each hue made me feel in relation to a love letter.

Yes, Redwood is a good solid color ๐
I actually got to visit a Redwood forest a few years back. ๐

See, perfect. But it was the quality of forever and always that I put in there because of you mostly and all the few like you also.
Plus redwood is a perfect and natural, and deep, yet soft and soothing shade of red

Awe, thank you. I think there are many who make being a couple work traditionally or not. I remember reading about one couple that were together for decades but could only marry finally after different laws were passed.
