To some, our story may seem tragic.
But to others, just maybe; we might have found our happy ending.

I recall a time the world was against us
When Nana forbade
And the elders condemned
When we had but one choice
For our hearts,
Could never conform.
Two souls in love,
Who fled to seek,
‘Together forever’

Love shines brightest in the dark
To this, we grieve and cry
Lost but together, cold but not alone
Hand in hand, Mary and I
The night we broke the weeping forest lines
A house most queer, loomed into view
It creaked of mystery and groaned with secrets
But gloomed out darkness, and warnings we would rue
Alas a rain, most wicked and bitter
Drove us gasping, for that lonely haunted refuge
Hand in hand, Mary and I
Into the eerie, out of that deluge
Inside, shadows spied and corners sighed
But alone at last, we thought to defy
Nay to the spooks, and Yay to suspense
Drenched in coldness, I looked Mary in the eye
Such lust I glimpsed, Such love was mirrored
And then she teased, “Will you let me shiver?”
Amidst that creaking, amongst the groaning
We gripped and groped, tangled in love’s fever
If only dawn had come, then this tale would be of hope
But flames that burn too bright, gleam for a moment
And after midnight, the dark elopes with light
For shadows that lurk, are never content.
Love shines brightest in the dark
And who are we to deny
Forbidden by day, now we love by night
Haunting this house
Beyond the weeping woods
Hand in hand, Mary and I
‘Together forever’

Hey everyone, a little spooky romance for you today,
I hope you enjoy.
Ballads are musical poems that often tell a story. Meant to be sang, or read out loud to a tune.
Stay safe everyone,
Stay loving.
I love the repeat of the together forever so much!

Really? I liked it too, it felt fitting to end with it as well.
Thank you Zoewie❤️🕊️

Haunting ballad, which makes me wonder: have you ever set any of your lyrics to music? If not, your audience awaits. 😀

Hehe glad you found it haunting, I did dilute it with love😇
About music, alas I cannot do it by myself, but I sometimes get a feeling that maybe I could write lyrics, but not alone.

A fitting ballad for All Hallow’s Eve and Valentines??
To be together, because others wanted to keep them apart…

Haha, thank you so much Jules. I now wish there was an occasional melding of the two holidays.
I was just highlighting that things don’t always turn out the way we want.

I’m watching a sort of paranormal series… about hauntings and your poem fit right in 😉

It is a modern day “Nancy Drew” series. It’s on a station here called The CW… I think it is in it’s second season. First episode was October 9, 2019.
Probably best to start from the beginning if you can. While looking into it… looks like you can stream it. Good luck.
