Tropical blooms. A garland cinquain

Life
Beauty
Africa!
The eyes have seen
Splendors far and wide
The heart still yearns for more
But my soul will always pine
For the scents and sights of childhood
Fluttering with soft whispers of home

Lantana flower

Colours
Changed with each bloom
A dance of harmony
Sweet Lantana; stars in the wild
Boundless

The blood lily

Glitz, Gloss
Eccentric hue
A bright poisoned delight
Flirt, don’t touch; lest thrills become spills
Toxic

Bid of Paradise

Elegant
A style with poise
In vogue for all seasons
Parading a deep cultured pride
Crested

White spider lily

Blessed
Transcending all
Purity embodied
Beauty that shares; Love that unites!
Virtue

Angel’s trumpets

Welcome
Eden awaits
The angels serenade
Special place, for special people
A Home

Bush of lantana flowers

Colours
Eccentric blooms
In vogue for all seasons
Beauty that shares; Love that unites!
A Home

The blue lotus of the Nile river

Africa
Forever calling
Come home child

Colleen’s syllabic prompt asked us to “pick a flower and tell why it’s special.
I like flowers as much as the next person, but what I absolutely adore is their wildness. You cannot tell a flower where or when or how to grow. They are often nurtured by nature herself.

Most of the above flowers grow wild and free in different parts of Uganda, though some may not be native. They are also found allover Africa.

I rarely write specifically about the homeland/continent, as I have a very worldly spirit. But every now and then, I do represent.(so to say)

A garland cinquain is a series of six cinquains in which the last is formed of lines from the preceding five, typically line one from stanza one, line two from stanza two, and so on.

At the beginning in light italics is a nine line poem called a nonet which follows a syllabic metre of (1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9),
And at the conclusion is a haiku(3/5/3)

  14. I love this! I too love exploring the world, but my home region is an important part of who I am. By this I mean the Pacific Northwest which is identified by its flora and fauna and not by state or country borders. It stretches from the North top of British Columbia, Canada to Northern California. I think most of us can agree that Los Angeles is on it’s own dimensional plane entirely. It would be as foreign to me as anywhere else. πŸ™‚

  22. Jude, I had that same lantana growing in my garden in Arizona. The colors were so rich. The 120 degrees finally fried those poor plants. I absolutely love this garland cinquain (one of my favorite forms). This was just spectacular. ❀

    1. judeitakali says:

Thank you so much Colleen. Shame about the lantana. It doesn’t get that hot here for them to die.
