Secrets in the meadow, Promises on the beach. (A ballad)

Memory stalks me.
A secret festers within,
And the burden of silence weighs heavy.
But some promises cannot be broken,
And some secrets must be taken to the grave…

#writephoto prompt

Never forget this moment
Never forget what we did here
A crime that went unpunished
A secret sealed in fear

A promise is a curse!
And this one haunts us to this day
‘Tell no one,’ she’d said! ‘I will see you again’
And see us she did! But wicked was her gaze!

Eugi’s weekly prompt

’twas a twilit evening of potential
The virgin breeze twirling fragrant scents
Sighed from diaphanous meadows
Besides ethereal shores
Mystics and mystery
As ‘Cyra’ chanted
a dark Summon
to watchful
Sleepless
Realms

Why we agreed, I do not know
But grief drove Cyra, and friendship buckled us in
‘Humor her,’ we’d thought; until lore became more
And that promise became a curse!

The old ones used to say
If you call to one of the dead
All of them listen!
And Cyra was distressed, her chants imprecise

The things we saw
And the sounds we heard
I cannot utter here
A secret sealed in fear

Dark be my days
And troubled be my nights
Her eyes haunt me
They pierce the veil, and sear the soul
For I touched the evil, that took her away.

Those who divulge, Cyra sees!
Sleepless and watchful
Wicked is her gaze
Her secret sealed in fear
For a promise is a curse
And all who tell,
Never see the dawn!

  1. A dark and mystic tale where the words send shivers down the spine – a mystery that’s not quite revealed – therein lies it’s power.

  36. I think I’ve mentioned the ‘New’ adult Nancy Drew mystery series –
Your piece reminds me of Nancy and her friends who dabble in the realm of spirits. And that is one reason I stopped watching after the first season!
