Fighting my demons. A Sonnet and poetry

Quiet now! While it slumbers
Tip and toe through daylight’s glare
Whisper and conspire amidst the tree-leaf glades
For evil waits, it does not sleep…

In my boudoir the walls are painted black
That I may see not, the shadows as they rise
Futures so bleak and a past without luck
Prayers in closets, locked by secrets and lies

Outside, the hallways groan and stairways squeak
Each step uncertain, each breath a summons
Grey-drab-walls, where shadowed horrors sneak
Haunted in my refuge, no home when I’m alone

Beyond this house’s threshold of despair
A lonely world awaits, eerie and empty
When all are pushed away, through curse and scare
It wakes! It wakes! And comes for only me

Run! They say! Avoid your demon triggers
But they lay a quicksand path, and the demons all but snigger

Scream out!
Let it wake! Let it come!
For maybe–just maybe, you’ll win –
And at last it will be gone!
Never to come back!

And you, will be free!

To fight the darkness, we must actively seek out the light.

I hope you enjoy this Sonnet and poetry. I don’t know if it’s odd that I’m making my favorite month a horror month on this blog. I do like my thrills so if you do too, then stay tuned this month; I’m building up the tension with every post.

Stay safe everyone, stay blessed and loving.

The sonnet form really suits a dark poem and you do them so well, Jude! Truly Shakespearian.

I somehow relate this post to Dumbledore with his quote, “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

    Beautifully penned, Jude 🌷

Reminds me very much of The house that Sarah Winchester built..
I can’t imagine being so afraid that I cannot feel comfortable in my own home. Though sometimes nightmares try to reach into reality.
