Artificial love #poetry #villanelle

I made this love from pain
Mounted wisdom’s pulleys in the catacombs of my heart
Strung them together with experience and prudence
And built anew.
Is love insincere if it comes from logic?
From a point of safety?
Is it exclusive to heart and not mind?
Is it unnatural if done too well?

When hearts become machines
They skip no beats, they do not stutter
But pain flows deep within

I decline passion’s cuisine
Love’s bitter taste it covers
But pain flows deep within

New love feels so serene
At first a meadow, at last a gutter
When hearts become machines

Courtship reveals love’s ravine
I gape with eagerness to discover
But pain flows deep within

A kiss masks emotions unseen
The mind becomes love’s butler
When hearts become machines

Left foot, right foot, we follow love’s routine
Pick a trait, choose a face, make a lover
When hearts become machines
But pain flows deep within

  3. A mechanical life is shallow and offers no depth–exactly right. (K)

    1. But that is the question, isn’t it? Some people are comfortable with using logic for love, and channel passion or derive pleasure from other areas of life. It may seem like an incomplete love but does that mean it is an unhappy one?

      1. To define happy…now that is an impossibility.

  6. If love is done very well, it is not unnatural, it is sincere and comes from the heart and rules the mind. Btw this machine is heart cool.

    1. Thank you, Eugi. However, this piece is two sided. Sometimes people make the love they can live with, and it is not always an unhappy one.

    1. Thank you Roberta. Artificial love does not always turn out so bad. That’s half of the foundation for this. The other half is the opposite.

  17. This reminds me of two different Sci Fi shows. Both with artificial life forms that could not/can not/do not have human emotions and the humans that try to interact with them and love them even though they cannot love them back. One was Commander Data on Star Trek and the other Issac on a show on Hulu called ‘Orville; New Horizons’. 🙂

    1. Hehe, I’ve watched orville. and lots of star trek too. Many times Love is not all natural. It does have some blueprints, so even A.I can simulate it to a certain extent.
