Dark epiphanies #prose and #poetry

Many of you may know Chris Hall. She’s an awesome author and one of my dearest friends here on wordpress and anywhere really. She’s in hospital. I wrote this short piece for her. Her condition was really serious but she’s on the mend and maybe it’s not my place to give details. Let’s pray for her quick recovery.

Dark epiphanies

In the black hour before dawn she walks an infamous path
This summer alone, three have gone missing here
The silence is so heavy her heartbeat is treacherously loud
She expects at any moment to hear the snap of a twig
The flurry of a cloak
And feel the cold hands of the Bledwick-park killer

The dark birth of dawn
when wind and leaf go silent
dread’s final maraud

Only here can she conquer her fear
amidst the darkness of beauty so familiar;
the side nobody wants to see
Her worst thoughts and nightmares are embodied in this place
Long has it dwelt on her mind
How this park can be so benign by day. yet sullied so sinister by night
She will not believe them; the rumours and disappearances
She needs to reclaim her sanctuary.

dead leaves underfoot
crunching, mapping, exposing
who knows what watches!

The tension is overwhelming
The wait, nerve-racking
She wants to flee but she needs to stay
And slowly, expectation turns to frustration
SHOW YOURSELF! She screams.
A shadow lengthens beside her – just a bunny!
Yellow eyes flash ahead – just a cat!
She takes a calming breath
“So it is you, Chris,” a voice slithers from the darkness
She knows that voice…
She whips around and is blinded by Cliff the watchman’s flashlight
“Chris, you are the Bledwick killer,” Cliff says.
And it all comes back to her
Those nightmares, all three of them, were real, and now Cliff would be next!

only dawn’s first light
shows the true nature of all
dark epiphanies.

Hey Chris! Surprise! I’ll mail you this link.
You might have expected rainbows and meadows but I’m guessing the friends and family with you got that covered. So here’s a little spooky something to cheer you up. I know you like a good plot twist(hope this one fits the bill). I did include a bunny and cat though, for a little light.

    1. Thank you Robbie, I was reached by one of her family as we are actively editing my book 2. I think she instructed him to notify those she was doing projects with when she came to. Haven’t spoken to her either. Hoping to hear from her when she’s better.
